Must-own geometric paintings of Bro. Eric Go ‘73
Heritage Arts and Antiques at the Shoe Expo in Araneta Center, Cubao, mounts its inaugural exhibit featuring the geometric paintings of Bro. Eric Go (UST Chapter Batch 1973).
Bro. Eric started out with monoprints in a pioneering tempera wash, etchings, and surreal figurative impressions. His comeback exhibit establishes him as one of the country’s finest color geometricists.
In his works, Bro. Eric paints a convolution of black lines in a baroque arrangement of patterns that seem to have a life of their own.His obsession with geometrics started in 1986. In January this year, his geometric work acquired an added dimension by using an explosioin of bright colors. His minimalist paintings are in mint, pink, lilac, blue and aqua, on which building blocks of embroidered lines are arranged. His reds are particularly outstanding. Bro. Eric’s black and white series stand out unembellished by color. A number of these have already been presold before exhibit opening.
Bro. Eric also produces dark combinations of black with green, where patterns have an ethnic orientation and feel. Other works are collages done on multidimensioned plexiglass, painting on the inner side, as in print. These sophisticated works of Go have been acquired by collectors in Virginia, Baltimore, California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Alaska.
Bro. Eric’s last show was in 1990 to a select audience at the Vietnamese Refugee Center in Morong, Bataan. Bro. Eric Go received the gold medal for Etching in 1981 at the China Selection of Philippine Art, Beijing, China. His geometric paintings will be on display at the Heritage Arts and Antiques until October 6.
