Abet ‘75 Newly Ordained Deacon
On Saturday-May 31st, family members, friends and five Triskelions came from far away places in US and Canada to witness the solemn Ordainment to Deacon of another Triskelion in Rochester, New York……..Bro. Abet Pacete (UST ‘75). He emigrated to US in 1981and prior to that he had a near death experience in Manila. 28 years later, now we know why God spared him because those of us who knew him back then never saw this coming.
Bro. Abet is a fine true artist and an excellent musician. He use to work with brods Eric Go(UST ‘73) and the late Lito Mayo(UST ‘77). He was one of the designers and makers of the official T-shirt in the 1976 Regional Convention at UP-Diliman, which is still a very popular and most sought after design up to now. As a musician he performed as opening acts for world known bands like Average White Band, Jefferson Starship and also worked as musical director in their churches congregation. He also ended up marrying his college sweetheart Mes, even after being separated for 7 years. Their romance is what novels are made of.
As the names of the Deacons being ordained were announced, I cannot help and proudly say to Brod Dan, “one of those names is a Triskelion”. The weekend was definitely a reunion and celebration but a complete contrast to how we use to in the 70’s. Brods Danny Escueta(UST ‘74) and Arnold Agas(UST ‘79) drove 6 hours from Manhattan and New Jersey. Bro. Ernie Gregorio(UST ‘75) drove from Toronto while Bro. Bernie Santiago(UST ‘73) and I flew from Seattle and Chicago respectively. The weekend was short but quite a memorable one.How we all wish Bro. Jun Magtibay(UST ‘75) and other Thomasian Triskelions close to Abet were there also to witness this event. Brod Jun was one of the brods who looked after and carried Abet’s cane before he left for US.
Congratulations to Deacon Alberto Lim Pacete. Another Triskelion who excelled in his chosen field of endeavor.
